“Mailshot” is one of those words every Maltese business uses and almost nobody defines. Broadly, it means a single coordinated send of printed marketing material to many recipients at once. In practice, there are two very different kinds — and choosing the right one decides what your campaign costs and who it reaches.

Addressed vs unaddressed. An addressed mailshot goes through the postal system to named recipients — it needs a mailing list, and you pay postage per item. An unaddressed mailshot (also called a door drop) is delivered by hand to every letterbox in the areas you choose — no list needed, no names, no postage: you select localities, and every household in them receives your material. For consumer offers, menus, catalogues and store openings, unaddressed is usually the cost-effective choice, because your audience is “everyone who lives near us”, not a list of names.

How an unaddressed mailshot works in Malta. Malta and Gozo divide into localities, and a professional operation plans delivery locality by locality, route by route. At PostPro, your material is machine-collated into complete bundles, assigned to named distributors, and recorded route by route as the week progresses — so a mailshot is not “sent and hoped for” but delivered and documented. You receive a weekly Distribution Update listing every area covered.

What a good mailshot needs. One clear offer, a reason to keep the piece, and a way to respond — the same rules as any strong door drop. If your send has multiple pieces (a letter plus a voucher, a catalogue plus a covering note), collation makes sure every household receives the complete set.

Timing. Mailshots are scheduled by area, so the earlier you book, the more control you keep over your landing week. Material that arrives the week before a promotion starts performs best.
